We are having planned IT work between 1 and 2pm on Thursday 9th January. We may be unable to issue prescriptions or deal with appointments during this period if you could avoid these times. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.




Surgeries normally run from 8.30am to 5.30pm, however, for the convenience of those patients who find it difficult to attend during the normal working day, we offer appointments outwith our normal surgery hours. These are until 7.00pm on Monday evenings and from 8.00am on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Please note the reception desk and phone line are not open at these times. To book an appointment, please  telephone the practice on 674545 within normal opening hours.

Consultations are by appointment only. Please do not present at the reception desk and expect to be seen. We do not provide a "drop in" service. You will be asked for details of your symptoms, a contact number and advised that a GP or Advanced Nurse Practitioner will call you. The reception staff are following the instructions of the GP partners and are not being obstructive. If it is a medical emergency such as chest pain, stroke or haemorrhage you should call "999"

Remember the phone lines will be busiest from 8.30am to 10am, but we do try to deal with requests as quickly as possible.

Reception staff will ask for the reason you are requesting an appointment. This is to ensure you get the right appointment at the right time with the right person. We now have an Advanced Physiotherapist in the practice who can see patients for musculoskeletal problems, a Pharmacist who can deal with medication queries and review chronic disease conditions and other allied health professionals that patients can be directed to. The GPs are asking that you answer all the reception staff questions, they are designed to help everyone by freeing up GP appointments for those that genuinely need them. 

Pre Bookable Appointments

We have a number of appointments that are bookable in advance. These can be booked 2-4 weeks ahead. We would encourage patients to book ahead where possible. This will reduce the amount of calls at 8.30am and allow those that need to be seen urgently to get through to the practice.

2 days in Advance

These appointments are released by the GP 2 days ahead. 

On The Day Appointments

These appointments are released by the GP on the day. We would advise you to call at 8.30am if you are wishing to be seen that day. 

Medical Triage

If all the "on the day" appointments have been allocated and you feel your medical  condition is urgent you will be asked for details of the condition and a contact telephone number by reception staff. A GP or Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) will call you back to discuss you symptoms and they will decide if you require to be seen at the practice or offer advice on the telephone. Please only ask for this service if your medical complaint is  genuinely urgent

Emergency Appointments

Emergency appointments are available each day for patients who feel they have a medical condition that cannot wait until the next day to be reviewed. These appointments are for genuine medical emergencies and we would ask that you do not abuse them. 

You are not able to choose the doctor you see at an emergency appointment.

You may be advised by reception staff that you will be "triaged" as above and the GP or ANP will allocate you an appointment.

One appointment is for one patient. If more than one member of the family requires to be seen you need to make multiple appointments.

Appointments are 10 minutes and the GP or Nurse have other patients waiting. If you wish to discuss multiple issues please advise reception staff when booking  to allow them to allocate a longer appointment. 

Sometimes you may only wish some telephone advice and a suitable time to speak to the doctor can be arranged. Please ensure you are available when the GP calls as they cannot try repeatedly. 

The Practice Nurses, Healthcare Assistant and Phlebotomist are able to treat patients for a wide range of common conditions. They are trained to deal with minor ailments and injuries, leg ulcers, ear syringing, immunisations, spirometry, cardiographs, etc. 

You can help by:

  • Answering the reception staff questions as accurately as possible
  • Being on time for your appointment
  • Letting us know as far in advance as possible if you need to cancel
  • Calling for a home visit or urgent appointment before 10.30am
  • Ringing for a repeat prescription after 10am and before 4pm
  • Ringing for the results of tests between 2.30pm and 4.30pm

As you are aware the peak time for our telephone system is first thing in the morning. We do have many reception staff answering the telephone and we do try to deal with calls as quickly as possible.  We would, therefore, ask that you call after 10am if you are calling regarding repeat prescription. This helps to make it easier for those trying to book appointments for that day. We appreciate the co-operation of our patients with this request.

If a language interpreter or sign language interpreter is required, please let our Reception Staff know when booking your appointment and we will ensure provision is made for this.
