Pharmacy First

Treatment for uncomplicated urinary tract or bladder infections is available to women aged between 16 and 65. The symptoms of these include:

  • burning or stinging sensation on passing urine;
  • needing to pass urine frequently;
  • needing to pass urine urgently;
  • passing excessive or larger quantities of urine; and
  • tenderness above the pubic bone.

Patients who meet the criteria will be prescribed medication. Not all patients will be appropriate for treatment and these will be signposted to other services.

Treatment for impetigo is available for adults and children over two years. Impetigo is more common in young children and the symptoms are red sores or fluid-filled blisters, usually around the mouth and nose, which burst and leave behind golden crusts / scabs.

Patients who meet the criteria will be prescribed medication. Again, not all patients will be appropriate for treatment and will be signposted to other services.

Pharmacy First will be able to treat other conditions soon.
